The Center of Excellence in Ocean Energy Technology is only a little more than a year old, but it's in a great location. It's just off the beach and, as director Rick Driscoll points out on a map, it is just 15 miles from the Gulf Stream.

Driscoll says that by investing in ocean energy technology, Florida will do more than just fill its power needs. It will create jobs and make the state a leader in an emerging industry. Cellulosic Ethanol "Green Gold' Clean Renwable Energy

The University of Central Florida is among the top 10 research universities in the nation, according to the 2008 University Patent Scorecard published by Intellectual Property Today. The Patent Scorecard ranks technology innovations gained from patents. UCF jumped from 21st to eighth to surpass Harvard University and the University of Wisconsin in the top 10. UCF also ranked third in the industry impact category, which measures the role a universityâs patents play in serving as a foundation for other patents and technologies. Eight of Florida's College and Universities Ranked Among Nations Best

Eight of Florida's college and universities were ranked among the best by the U.S. News & World Reportâs 2009 edition of "America's Best Colleges." University of Florida and Florida State University earned #17 and #50 ranks, respectively, in the Top Public Schools: National Universities list, while the University of Miami ranked #51 in the overall Best National Universities list. Among private colleges, Rollins College ranked #1 among 121 Southern master's-level universities, New College of Florida became the nationâs #5 ranked Public Liberal Arts College, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University retained its top ranking for the ninth year in a row in "Best aerospace/aeronautical/astronautical engineering programs" in the U.S. (U.S. News & World Report August 2008)
