Trane, a global provider of heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, recently launched its ultra-efficient and environmentally-friendly new commerical rooftop unit in Lynn Haven. Over $15 million was invested in new equipment, and about $12 million in capital investments, for the new assembly line.

President Barack Obama joined FPL Group and Florida Power & Light Company officials today for the commissioning of the largest photovoltaic solar facility in the nation. The new 25-megawatt solar array and FPL's Energy Smart Florida project position Florida as a leader in developing a clean-energy economy for the 21st century, delivering significant economic and environmental benefits to the area. The $388-million Shands Cancer Hospital at the University of Florida, located at the new Shands at UF South Campus, will open to the public on November 1, 2009. The 500,000-square-foot, 192-bed Shands Cancer Hospital will serve a variety of inpatients, including those receiving diagnostic and therapeutic oncology care, and will also house the Shands Critical Care Center for emergency and trauma services. Tallahassee Community College has received $1.7 million from the U.S. Army Research Office to support a new Advanced Manufacturing Training Center, which, when completed, will provide job training and foster job creation in manufacturing and related cutting-edge technologies. (Read more)

The UF research and teaching center, Citylab-Orlando, an initiative of the College of Design, Construction and Planning, will be housed at the UCF Center for Emerging Media. The center is already home to UCF's Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy, a graduate video-gaming school, and other UCF programs. (Read more)

Alachua-based Optima Neuroscience received FDA clearance to market the company's first clinical product, IdentEvent. Based on extensive research that began at the University of Florida, IdentEvent was designed to assist sub-specialty neurologists in the difficult and tedious task of reviewing long-term EEG recordings. USAA is adding 200 more jobs to its Tampa operation, the financial services company's second major expansion here in less than a year. The new jobs, tied to adding a banking and investment operation here, would bring its Tampa location to nearly 2,000 employees. (Read more)
