Enterprise Florida announces $1.5 million in Defense Infrastructure Grants
ORLANDO, FL (December 3, 2012) – The state of Florida has awarded $1,581,245 in Defense Infrastructure Grants for fiscal year 2012-13 (July 1 – June 30) to local community organizations that support Florida military installations. The grants work to protect a $60 billion economic impact and more than 686,000 direct and indirect jobs, which the defense industry annually infuses into Florida.
Governor Rick Scott said, “This grant program is a vital tool in maintaining Florida’s reputation as the most military friendly state in the nation. Jobs for Florida families is my top priority - and these grants will improve the quality of life for hundreds of thousands of Floridians employed at our military installations.
The state awards Defense Infrastructure Grants to communities that host military installations. The grants are performance-based and will be distributed after the recipient has fulfilled its project requirements. The funds provide support for local infrastructure projects that have a positive impact on the community and enhance an installation’s military value. They may be used for projects related to encroachment, transportation and access, utilities, communications, housing, environment and security.
The grants will benefit eight military installations and their communities. This year, awards were given to the City of Jacksonville, Highlands County Economic Development Commission, Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast, Bay County Board of County Commissioners, Santa Rosa County, Greater Pensacola Chamber of Commerce, and Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners. Okaloosa received awards for both Hurlburt Field and Eglin Air Force Base.
The Defense Infrastructure Grant program is administered by Enterprise Florida, Inc. The funds are awarded annually on a project priority basis. See http://www.floridadefense.org/grants.asp for a breakdown of grants per recipient.

Contact: GOVERNOR’S PRESS OFFICE (850) 717-9282 media@eog.myflorida.com Governor Scott to Embark on Trade Mission to Colombia Enterprise Florida (EFI) has organized this trade mission and six other international business development missions Governor Scott has led since taking office. Previously, Governor Scott has led missions to Panama, Canada, Brazil, Israel, Spain and the United Kingdom. The goal of these international missions is twofold. First, they introduce Florida’s businesses, elected officials and community leaders firsthand to global business opportunities through introductions to prospective clients and markets that provide exporting potential for their local companies. Second, the missions aim to attract job-creating foreign direct investment into the state. These have been core activities for EFI since the late 1990s, soon after the public-private partnership was created to serve as the state’s lead economic development organization. EFI, along with Governor Scott, promotes Florida as a global business destination through its Florida Export Sales Missions. These “matchmaking missions,” organized with support from the U.S. Commercial Service, allow Florida businesses to meet one-to-one with foreign companies to discuss economic development and business opportunities. The nations targeted tend to be those that are major trade partners with Florida. Enterprise Florida facilitates affordable travel packages to enable businesses to meet prospective international clients. In addition, Governor Scott has led business development missions with EFI to promote economic development activities in targeted industries that are important to Florida’s economy. Governor Scott said, “Florida is perfectly positioned to be a global hub for business. We are committed to growing our relationship across the world in order to create jobs for Florida’s families, and that is why the missions we embark on with EFI are vital to Florida’s economic success. These missions help us attract new industries and businesses to Florida and further cement our standing as one of the nation’s top trading states. I look forward to visiting Colombia and with the recent ratification of the Free Trade Agreements, I am convinced that Florida and Colombia’s growing relationship will expand even more.” Manny Mencía, senior vice president of Enterprise Florida’s International Trade Division, said, “A major goal of these missions is to help increase our state’s exports, which leads to more jobs, by paving the way to greater sales opportunities for Florida companies. Companies that export, grow faster and are more profitable than companies that do not – and it is clear that we must make this a top priority in Florida.” Florida Secretary of Commerce and Enterprise Florida President & CEO Gray Swoope notes that “international trade and foreign investment combined are responsible for more than 1.4 million Florida jobs, or about 17.3 percent of the state’s employment. Florida benefits greatly from a Governor who understands global trade’s effect on job creation and economic prosperity. When Governor Scott leads these missions, they not only generate a higher level of participation and results, but also attract a higher level of attention and enhance Florida’s business image in the host country. We applaud him for being a champion of our efforts to expand Florida’s international trade and business development.” A Record of Success: International missions have been very successful for Florida, providing a notable return on the state’s investment into these business development activities and long-range jobs-producing opportunities.
Governor’s Business Development Mission to Panama Panama City March 17-18, 2011 The objective of this mission was to assess the opportunities from the Panama Canal Expansion. The delegation -- six Florida port directors, business leaders and executives from the Florida Chamber of Commerce, Florida Association of Manufacturers and Associated Industries of Florida – enhanced Florida’s economic relationship with Panama through strengthened ties between state leaders and the Republic of Panama and Florida seaports with the Panama Canal Authority. Governor’s Business Development Mission to Canada Montreal and Toronto June 6-10, 2011 The objective of this mission was to promote investment into Florida. Governor Scott and Florida economic development organizations participated in 155 FDI (foreign direct investment) (FDI) recruitment meetings. Governor Scott announced the Canadian security company Garda will relocate its U.S. headquarters to Boca Raton Florida, creating 100 professional jobs, which has been exceeded. Team Florida Trade and Business Development Mission to Brazil São Paulo and São Jose dos Campos, Brazil October 22-27, 2011 The objective of this mission was to provide Florida companies with an opportunity to increase sales of their products and services. 51 Florida companies participated in a two-day Florida expo and matchmaking event with Brazilian businesses. The Florida companies reported more than $96,684,500 in actual and expected future sales. · Governor Scott announced that Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer will invest $50 million to establish new manufacturing facilities at Melbourne Airport. The project is slated to produce more than 200 jobs over five years. Governor’s Business Development Mission to Israel Tel Aviv, Beersheva and Jerusalem December 8-15, 2011 The objective of this mission was to promote investment into Florida and promote Florida as a platform for Israeli companies into the U.S., Latin American and Caribbean market. The Governor met with potential Israeli investors, delivered presentations on Florida business climate to Israeli business organizations and was a speaker in the GLOBES Conference. (GLOBES is the leading financial newspaper in Israel.) Governor Scott met with six Israeli companies that are investment or expansion prospects for Florida and spoke at the seminar “Florida: Platform for Israeli Companies Doing Business in Latin America and the Caribbean,” the audience for which included 45 Israeli business executives representing SMEs with an interest in penetrating the Latin American market. Governor’s Business Development Mission to Spain May 21-24, 2012 The objective of this mission was to promote Spanish investment into Florida. · Included nine events and 13 meetings with potential investment projects. Governor Scott met Spanish companies interested in investing in Florida and delivered presentations on Florida business climate to several Spanish business organizations. · The following companies based in Spain will add 465 jobs within three years in Miami-Dade County: o Obrascon Huarte Lain (OHL USA), one of the world's largest global construction companies is expanding its presence in the U.S. market by adding a new U.S. South Region headquarters in Northwest Miami-Dade County. Specializing in civil engineering, healthcare and university projects, OHL's new location will add 255 direct jobs within three years and $22 million in capital investment. o Miami City Tour (formerly El Grupo Julià), a travel and tourism transportation company will open its first U.S. location in Miami Beach, adding 150 new direct jobs within three years and $4 million in capital investment. o TotalBank, a leading integrated retail-commercial bank in South Florida and a member of Grupo Banco Popular Español will further expand in Miami-Dade County, adding 10 new branches with 60 direct jobs within three years and $4 million in capital investment. TotalBank is already a leading integrated retail commercial bank in South Florida with more than $2.3 billion in assets and 19 convenient locations throughout Miami-Dade County. o BBVA, a Spain-based retail bank that entered the Florida marketplace through acquiring Compass bank, has 45 full-service branches in the Jacksonville area along with loan production offices in Orlando and Miami. This bank is expanding in the Miami market by offering domestic private banking and wealth management services. BBVA will add 45 jobs at an average wage of $60,000 annually. Team Florida Business Development Mission to United Kingdom London and Farnborough, England July 7-12, 2012 The goal of this mission was to promote worldwide investment into Florida and further develop the state’s aviation cluster through access to the aviation and aerospace companies attending the biannual Farnborough Airshow. Governor Scott and EFI recruitment staff met with more than 40 major aviation and seven Aerospace companies with investment potential in Florida. Tradeshow participants reported $41 million in combined actual and expected export sales for the next 24 months and 250 sales leads. Following this mission, Governor Scott announced that Pratt & Whitney will create 230 new jobs at an average wage of $81,000 as part of its efforts to establish jet engine manufacturing and test operations in Palm Beach County. Many businesses also participate in multiple international missions because they provide incredible value and return for Florida’s companies. Below are recent success stories for Florida: Magna-Bon International LLC Okeechobee-based Magna-Bon International LLC participated in the October, 2011 Brazil Trade Mission and will embark to Colombia next week. Magna - Bon produces and distributes agricultural products for algae and bacteria control. Magna-Bon owner Joel Agler says being affiliated with the missions Governor Scott leads brings credibility to his company when promoting and selling in overseas markets. For example, Magna-Bon is EPA-approved in the United States, which benefits the company domestically. Other nations may recognize that standard but also place higher value on a business prospect when it has alliances or support from its government. “It’s helpful to have government on your side,” Agler said. “It’s important to say we’re with Team Florida.” Agler’s 14 preset appointments in Brazil with “high quality people,” he describes, bore fruit in several ways, one of which being an import permit that now allows his products to be shipped into Brazil. “I learned a lot in Brazil, but Colombia will be better because of the Free Trade Agreement,” Agler said. He mentioned that he became interested in participating after hearing Governor Scott speak about the benefits of participating in these missions. “And the fact that the governor is going is a win situation for us,” Agler said. Sunshine Industries Mita Burke, CEO of the family-owned, multinational Sunshine Industries in Coral Gables, said “The introductions, exposure and results we’ve gotten have been over the top. Since our participation in the mission to Brazil last year, we are exporting there consistently and successfully. It has really been very fruitful for us,” Burke said. “The introductions we were able to make during the mission have us very excited about the possibilities and the future is looking good. The companies we met with were all very receptive to our products. It’s a shame more people don’t pay attention to these types of services provided by Enterprise Florida.” yNs Med Spa, Inc The Brazil mission made a difference for the Naples company yNs Med Spa, Inc., which specializes in skin care products. CEO Ann Breusch said her company was able to collaborate with a large firm that will distribute its skincare products to dermatologists. “This is a game changer for our company. Just the partnership with Brazil will result in hiring five more employees. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of the Gold Key service for small businesses to help sell USA made products globally,” Breusch said. Businesses may qualify for these grants, which reduce the cost of participating in a trade mission. For the Florida mission, a trade expo and gold key package cost $1,200, but SMEs could qualify to pay only $500. “Without the Gold Key grant given to small businesses, we would not have been able to expand our international business especially during the current economic situation.” Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Chancellor John R. Watret, Ph.D. acknowledges the university’s longstanding partnership with Enterprise Florida, which he says has opened doors to business opportunities worldwide. Embry-Riddle’s Worldwide Campus provides educational opportunities for aspiring professionals in the aviation and aerospace industry through an expanding global network of campuses and technology enhanced learning. “Of particular importance to Embry-Riddle has been expansion in emerging aviation economies,” Watret emphasizes. “Enterprise Florida’s support and mentorship was integral in the successful opening of a new subsidiary, Embry-Riddle Asia, headquartered in Singapore. EFI events and missions have created valuable connections with foreign governments, industry and individual customers in Europe, Asia, South America and the Middle East that will continue to enhance the university’s international brand and serve its mission of teaching the science, practice and business of aviation and aerospace around the world.” City of Tampa Representatives from Florida’s communities are regular mission-goers in their quest to scope new opportunities for helping their city, county or region grow and prosper. "The trip to Colombia is an opportunity to tell our story and make the case to businesses abroad that Tampa is the best place to live, work, and play. I will market what we have to offer – Florida’s largest port, a world-class airport, and incredible economic potential,” said Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn. ###

This marks the second consecutive year that Enterprise Florida has received a STEP, which is a $30 million program that provides states and U.S. territories with funds to enhance their export promotion activities. Manny Mencía, Enterprise Florida’s senior vice president of International Trade & Development, cites two main objectives for the programs his division is implementing: 1) to aid small Florida producers who do not export or do so only infrequently take advantage of international opportunities, and 2) to help small manufacturers diversify their international sales. “The grant presents a great opportunity for small and medium size enterprises. It allows them to take advantage of overseas tradeshows and missions because we will be able to provide them with funding to offset their costs,” Mencía explains. More specifically, Enterprise Florida will use its STEP grant to help Florida’s small and medium sized businesses (under 500 employees) establish and expand their international reach through: ·Target Sector Trade Grants – These Enterprise Florida grants pay half of the cost of a tradeshow booth (up to $7,500) for qualified businesses considering participation in Enterprise Florida’s and other overseas tradeshows. ·Cost assistance for customized export marketing plans -- In partnership with the Florida Small Business Development Center Network, Enterprise Florida offers qualified manufacturers and services providers direct cost assistance with the development of their customized export marketing plans. Contact: Stuart Doyle (407) 956-5689 Florida Sports Foundation chief retires President & CEO Larry Pendleton leaves legacy of industry growth, job creation ORLANDO, FL (July 6, 2012) After 21 years at the helm of the Florida Sports Foundation, Larry Pendleton has called it a career. “As I reflect back on my 21 plus years with the Florida Sports Foundation, I am pleased with what we were able to accomplish, working in partnership with the state,” said Pendleton. “I am so thankful to have been blessed with a hard working staff that always had a can-do attitude. Our accomplishments are a result of their work.” In 1991, Governor Lawton Chiles assigned Pendleton, who then worked for Florida’s Department of Commerce, to convert its sports division to a public-private partnership. By the following year Pendleton had become the first director of newly formed Florida Sports Foundation. “Governor Lawton Chiles believed that public-private partnerships would work and save the state money, as well as give more flexibility to the private sector to enhance the sports industry,” Pendleton recalled. “I was given the task of getting the job done.” During the next 20 years, Pendleton created programs and initiatives that elevated Florida’s sports to high-profile status. It grew from a $16 billion industry to the currently estimated $36 billion, employing more than 400,000 Floridians. “Larry’s visionary approach to sports development and tireless commitment to growing this sector, making it more competitive, has had a significantly positive economic impact,” FloridaSecretary of Commerce Gray Swoope emphasizes. “Not only did he propel our sports industry into a nationwide leader, he helped put thousands of our citizens to work.” Pendleton was vital to the development to notable marketing campaigns such as “PLAY FLORIDA GOLF” and “FISH FLORIDA BOAT FLORIDA,” which capitalized on the state’s fishing and boating industries. John Webb, Pendleton’s successor as president & CEO, believes the Foundation’s marketing campaigns and the state’s Professional Team License Plates are among staple programs for which Pendleton will be mostly remembered. “The success of the license plate program is a great testament to Larry’s legacy,” explained Webb. “The success of that program led to the creation of The Florida Sports Grant Program, which works with communities and regional sports commissions located throughout the state to attract various sporting events.” Webb also credits the success of Pendleton’s programs as contributors to the growth of the state’s sports commissions, which primarily are responsible for Florida’s sports economic development. Florida now has 21 sports commissions. Before his Commerce days, Pendleton spent a decade as the assistant athletic director at Florida State University where his stints also included academic advisor and football coach (1973-80). His relationship with the Seminoles, however, dates back even further: Pendleton was an offensive lineman (1966-68). Gov. Scott leads economic development mission to UK Farnborough Airshow centerpiece of weeklong event
ORLANDO, FL (July 6, 2012) Continuing his commitment to bringing new jobs and capital investment to Florida, Governor Rick Scott will lead an economic development mission to the United Kingdom from July 9-15. “Promoting Florida on this international scale will enable us to establish new overseas business alliances, secure new investment and strengthen ties to corporate leaders, companies and government entities that are important to the state,” explains Florida Commerce Secretary Gray Swoope, who heads the state’s lead economic development organization, Enterprise Florida, which is coordinating the mission. “It’s a great opportunity to demonstrate Florida’s competitive advantages in the UK, which is a global market we target for economic development.” This year, the show -- one of the world’s largest exhibitions featuring the aerospace, defense and space sectors -- expects more than 120,000 attendees from 40 countries. Florida’s representation will include 21 organizations as exhibitors. Florida is home to 12 aviation military installations, three spaceports and notable academic institutions that offer advanced degrees in disciplines related to aviation and aerospace. In-state, the industry also comprises about 2,000 companies and 83,000 employees, positioning Florida as the nation’s number-two state for aviation, aerospace and space establishments. Aside from airshow attendance, Gov. Scott and Florida’s delegates will meet with leading aviation and aerospace CEOs for business development purposes. Florida’s Farnborough Airshow Exhibitors

Contact: Stuart Doyle (407) 956-5689 Home Source International to create 303 jobs in Marianna Company's Made in the USA textiles brand to inject $2.3 million investment in Jackson County. ORLANDO, FLA (June 26, 2012) – In preparation for the launch of its Made in the USA brand -- to include home textiles, furniture and lighting for the hospitality and retail industries – Atlanta-based Home Source International, Inc. will establish a manufacturing and distribution facility in Marianna by the end of this year. The new operation will produce 303 jobs and an initial capital investment of $2.3 million which will cover tangible property and equipment to support manufacturing and distribution operations. Home Source will begin its first phase of hiring by early next year and complete the process by the end of 2016. Salaries will average 107 percent of Jackson County's current average annual wage ($29,390). "Home Source International is pleased and honored to be supported by the great state of Florida as well as Jackson County and the City of Marianna as our company launches a "Made in USA" manufacturing platform," said Keith R. Sorgeloos, president & CEO Home Source International, Inc. "We look forward to many years of success in building a business and community the old fashioned way ... supporting Made in USA products and American jobs." Home Source was approved for $1.4 million from Florida's Quick Action Closing Fund to assist with repurposing and renovating the City of Marianna-owned 270,000 sq. ft. building complex located at Marianna's Airport and Industrial Park. Florida competed with cities in Virginia and South Carolina for this opportunity. "After recently visiting more than 15 rural counties statewide, I know how important these jobs are to Jackson County," said Governor Rick Scott. "Home Source International's choice of Florida's Great Northwest demonstrates that all of our communities are competitive, regardless of their size and population. It also shows that Florida possesses the talent, resources and business climate to encourage companies to expand and create jobs in our state." The Jackson County Development Council and the City of Marianna partnered with Enterprise Florida, the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity and Florida's Great Northwest to land the project. "The City of Marianna is very pleased to welcome Home Source International to our building at the Marianna Airport and Industrial Park" said Marianna Mayor James Wise. "We look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship as Home Source grows its manufacturing and distribution in Marianna." About Home Source International, Inc. Contact: Stuart Doyle Teledyne plans R&D center in Daytona Beach Teledyne Oil and Gas, a business unit of Teledyne Instruments Inc., is the leading supplier of fiber optic, electric and high-power interconnect technology for the subsea oil and gas, defense and commercial markets, and a global provider of products and services. Final Teledyne corporate approval for this project was received late last week, which allows the ground work to begin immediately, with occupancy planned for the first quarter of 2013. The Global R&D center will occupy a newly constructed 50,000-square-foot industrial building adjacent to Teledyne’s current 100,000-square-foot facility at 1026 S. Williamson Blvd. The location will also incorporate the administrative offices of the Teledyne Oil and Gas headquarters. “We are pleased that Teledyne Oil and Gas is cementing its presence in Florida with the formation of its global headquarters in Daytona Beach. The new operations also will strengthen our R&D sector as well as provide welcome job opportunities to Floridians,” said Governor Rick Scott. This decision is expected to create 100 new jobs over three years and an initial capital investment of more than $4 million. According to Volusia County Economic Development Director Phil Ehlinger, the company chose Daytona Beach because it provides the advantage of coordinating all cross-functional support including management, finance, human resources, contract administration, import and export administration, engineering, research and development, project management and quality assurance. "Daytona Beach is excited to have Teledyne expand in our city,” said Emory Counts, Daytona Beach’s economic and community development director. They are a significant corporate and community partner. It is also important to note that the city and the county worked together seamlessly with Enterprise Florida and the state to help make it happen!" Partner organizations for the project included Volusia County, Volusia County Department of Economic Development and Enterprise Florida. Gray Swoope Op Ed: American Airlines by Gray Swoope Florida Secretary of Commerce President & CEO, Enterprise Florida Inc.
American Airlines has a long, rich tenure in Florida, one that should continue for generations to come. As the airline works to restore its industry leadership, now is the time to emphasize the company’s importance to Florida.
American is valued economic partner to Florida, and more so to Miami-Dade. Statewide, the airline’s economic impact is significant mainly because of its 410 daily departures; 310 of which take place from Miami. While refocusing itself for future viability, American must maintain the flexibility needed to continue building and investing in Florida markets. Miami, for instance, would be included in the airline’s plan to increase departures at its five major hubs by 20 percent during the next five years. Plans also call for more international flights. Since 1979, American’s growth and expansion in Miami has evolved into one of the most remarkable success stories in commercial aviation history. The city is American’s primary gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean, and this geographical benefit has contributed greatly to the company’s success. For this reason in 1989, American established its Miami hub, which today accommodates more than 23 million passengers and accounts for 70 percent of Miami International Airport’s traffic. This activity means a lot to our state’s bottom line. American has been an economic driver, annually bringing more than 30 million tourists and business professionals to and from Florida. In dollars, this translates to a $13.9 billion yearly impact on the state’s gross domestic product. A vital American Airlines means jobs. The company employs 9,284 workers statewide, but this number affects 155,000 Florida jobs when considering vendors and other businesses that rely on American for their livelihoods. Those jobs support thousands of tax-paying families that contribute to the vibrancy and prosperity of their own local communities, businesses and schools. American Airlines is undergoing a challenging process that’s designed to secure the company with a solid foundation for future success. I believe American has moved decisively to chart a strong course for success. It will entail hard decisions in the coming weeks and months. However, I am confident that American’s leadership will make the right choices to ensure the airline’s viability and sustain many jobs that otherwise would be lost. #####

Florida retains 4th place rank among exporting states
ORLANDO, FL (February 27, 2012) -- With $64.8 billion in origin exports last year – 17 percent higher than 2010’s total -- Florida has held its position as the nation’s fourth largest export state.
Florida has been among the top five exporting states since 2008.
“This ranking confirms that Florida is a great place to do business on a global scale,” said Governor Rick Scott. “My team works every day to make Florida the No. 1 business state and a highly valued trade partner with countries around the world, especially those in Central and South America.”
Florida Secretary of Commerce Gray Swoope attributes the ranking to the continuing strength of Florida’s export sector. “It supports hundreds of thousands of jobs and is a primary economic driver in the state,” said Swoope, who’s also the president & CEO of Enterprise Florida, the state’s chief economic development organization. “Enterprise Florida will continue expanding Florida exports by building more awareness of the benefits among smaller and mid-sized businesses and facilitating the process for them,” Swoope explained.
From 2010 to 2011, Florida’s new exports amounted to nearly $9.4 billion, representing a growth rate that exceeded the nation’s 15.8 percent increase during the same time frame. Even more, Florida’s total exports for ‘10-11 ($64.8 billion), surpassed its peak year, 2008 ($54.2 billion). And with an additional $34.5 billion in exports of services, Florida companies exported nearly $100 billion in goods and services in 2011.
The National Association of Manufacturers reports that Florida ranks second in the U.S. for export-intensity – meaning the state has the second highest level of exports as a share of total manufactured goods.
“These factors as well as our success in helping more companies understand the value of and engage in international trade positions Florida to more than double its exports by 2014 from 2009 levels,” said Manny Mencía, senior vice president of Enterprise Florida’s international business division.
Eighty-five percent of Florida’s exports are manufactured goods. To promote growth in this industry, Florida’s sales tax statutes already provide a number of exemptions for the purchase of machinery and equipment, including an exemption for new businesses. During the 2012 legislative session, Governor Scott has proposed additional tax relief for existing manufacturers, encouraging further investment and growth in Florida’s manufacturing industry.

(LAKE MARY, FL) February 13, 2012 - Today, Governor Rick Scott announced that Verizon Communications, a Fortune 100 company, will establish a finance and accounting “Center of Excellence” in Lake Mary. This new facility will initially create 300 jobs by the fourth quarter of 2014, with a total of 750 new jobs by 2016. In addition, it will bring a $50 million capital investment to the Orlando area. Governor Scott said, “Verizon’s choice to locate their Center of Excellence in Lake Mary is great news for Florida families. With the second largest drop in unemployment rate in the country, this addition of 750 new jobs with Verizon is more proof we have made the right choices over the pst two years to keep our economy growing.” Michelle Robinson, vice president, south area, shed light on the reason Florida was chosen for this project “We have received a warm welcome from the state and local economic development partners, who aided in our decision process to locate in Metro Orlando,” said Robinson. “The region’s talent pipeline, which is full of finance and accounting graduates, was an integral factor in Verizon choosing to invest in Central Florida.” This new location will centralize Verizon’s accounting, finance, and back office operations. Integrating these departments into one location will help Verizon improve processes, enhance service to internal and external customers, and improve career and networking opportunities for employees. Organizations that partnered to support the Verizon project include City of Lake Mary, Enterprise Florida Inc., Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission and Seminole County. Workforce Florida Inc. and the local universities and colleges also provided assistance as well. Seminole County Commission Chairman Bob Dallari said, “Our financial service sector is growing and with great locations, talent and livability. I know more companies will continue to join Verizon in Seminole County.” Lake Mary Mayor David Mealor added, “Lake Mary is very pleased to have Verizon join our business community. Their decision to locate such a large back office facility in our city is an honor and we welcome the jobs coming with it with open arms.” Rick Weddle, president and CEO of the Metro Orlando EDC, pointed out that “Metro Orlando has been seeing strong growth in the shared services sector and we are pleased to have an industry leader such as Verizon join our region.” Attending the event with Governor Rick Scott was Secretary of Commerce and president & CEO of Enterprise Florida, Gray Swoope. “It’s a proud day for Florida when we can announce 750 new jobs,” said Swoope. “This is a success story not only for that reason but also because it proves the hard work and accomplishments of Enterprise Florida and its partners are growing and diversifying our economy.” #####

Custom Control Solutions expands in Pensacola area
15 new, higher-wage jobs forthcoming for this small business
ORLANDO, FL (January 5, 2012) – Enterprise Florida, Escambia County and thePensacola Bay Area Chamber of Commerce announce the expansion of Cantonment-based Custom Control Solutions, Inc. (CCS) to Pensacola.
“Through CCS’ expansion, the Pensacola area, once again, is exemplifying Florida’s ability to nurture and escalate its smaller businesses to higher levels, thereby enhancing both local and statewide economic growth,” said Gray Swoope, president & CEO of Enterprise Florida Inc. “This expansion also reflects Florida’s commitment to high-value job creation and ensuring the right business climate to enable it.”
Headquartered at 1520 Power Blvd. in Cantonment, CCS designs and builds Analyzer Systems, Industrial Control Systems, Instrument Cabinets and System Integration Services. One of the company’s largest and most competitive markets is “building industrial equipment buildings,” and its largest competitors are located in the North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.
Currently, CCS outsources the fabrication of these buildings, but through this project – a $520,000 community investment -- the company plans to construct them at its new facility in Pensacola. The address is 9165 Roe Street in Pensacola, and a ribbon-cutting will take place there on January 27. CCS’ headquarters will remain in Cantonment.
“We are establishing manufacturing and service centers in the Pensacola area to serve industrial clients on the East Coast and Gulf States,” explained CCS President Manfred Laner. “CCS is using Pensacola’s available labor pool and is also providing training for candidates who would like to choose a career opportunity in manufacturing and industrial technology.”
Donnie McMahon, chairman of the Pensacola Bay Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, noted that “it is an honor that this successful seven-year-old business has chosen to invest in the Pensacola area. This is yet another example of how committed the local business community is to increasing job opportunities throughout the region.”
CCS’ presently has 20 employees, but the expansion will create 15 jobs with
annual salaries averaging $39,616, which is 115 percent of the metro area’s mean yearly wage of $34,449.
Escambia County administrator Randy Oliver points out that “while 15 jobs may not seem like a lot, those jobs have the potential to have a big impact on our community. The jobs will provide opportunities for our citizens to better themselves and, in turn, further help our economy.”
Aside from applauding CCS’ expansion, Pensacola’s mayor, Ashton Hayward, emphasized the economic importance of smaller enterprises.
"Small businesses like CCS are the backbone of a successful, sustainable local economy,” said Hayward. “These are the types of small businesses who not only create jobs, but through their customer and client base, help to be ambassadors for Pensacola and Escambia County as a great place to live and work."
